Scenario Practice

Page history last edited by nadean 2 yrs ago

On our final night March 22, each student will select one scenario from a selection of three  similar to the practice ones listed below(one reading based, one technology based and one curriculum basd). You will write in class a short plan of action for the selected scenario.

The scenario action plan will be evaluated on materials learned in class and text such as:

  • Being learner centered
  • Collection analysis
  • Collaboration with mission, advisory board, school teachers, other teacher librarians and libraries
  • Using standard resources and processes
  • Thinking "outside the box" in terms of practice generally observed in current library practice and possible outside funding sources
  • Ethical practices and collection policy

SAMPLES

Reading Based Practice

  • Your school ( select grade levels) is targeting resources and teaching to  the readers who are close to passing the WASL reading test but missing within a few points. What is your plan of action as the teacher librarian and how will you use the school library resources to assist in this school initiative?

  • A local service organization wants to partner with your school "to promote reading"  They are proposing funding of at least $3000 and volunteer time. They need to have a specific proposal for their members and they would like a plan that encourages their members to make this an annual gift for the next five years.  What is your role as the teacher librarian and what type of plan would you propose (select the grade level and general demographics of your school- you can use your field experience school)

Technology Based Practice

  • The school district has been paying for district wide databases (select the statewide databases and at least 2 additional ones and state the grade level of your school) but because of budget shortfalls, the yearly fee must be picked up by each school or be discontinued. What is your proposed plan of action for this change in collection development?

  • The state is offering  a one time technology increase per school of $30 per student. Select your grade level and number of students and tell the role of the teacher librarian in this process and your request for technology for the school through the school library media center.

Curriculum based Practice

  • Your school's professional learning communities have been promised financial support from the school's budget including up to 20% of the budget usually allocated to the school library for their yearly plan to improve student achievement. Select your grade level range and pick at least one professional learning community  ( select their focus) and how you would respond to this challenge.

  • Your school's math scores are below state average and the focus this year will be to provide additional resources for students to succeed in math. An additional $10,000 has been allocated for resources. Select your grade level and in your role as teacher librarian, how you can assist this school goal?
